Q: How do you adjust the torsion bars on my 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd to bring the front up a couple of inches?
How do you adjust the torsion bars on my 2003 chevy Silverado 2500hd to bring the front up a couple of inches? …
Do i need a special tool? a torsion key? or can i use my own tools?

A: You will just need a socket and ratchet to adjust the torsion bars.

I’m not sure what size your adjuster bolts are, but will take a socket around 21mm in size. You will find the bolts (1 per torsion bar) that are orientated vertically on the cross member at the rear part of the torsion bars.

Turn each adjustment bolt clockwise the same amount to increase the ride height. I would go two full turns at a time, then move the truck forward and backward a few feet to allow the suspension to ’settle’; (as the suspension cycles through its travel, the tires move inward and outward, so moving the truck allows the tires to travel center themselves underneath the hub).

If you go up a couple of inches, you WILL need to get the front end aligned.

Q: What would it cost to put in a new transmission in my 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4X4?
I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4X4, diesel engine that needs a new transmission. I am checking to see if anyone out there knows approx. how much it would cost me so that I don’t get ripped off at a garage.

A: You’re looking at around $2500 for the transmission, and maybe another $1000 for installation, if not more than that. Your truck has the Allison transmission that’s paired with the Duramax diesel, which is far from cheap, especially with 4wd. Once you get a price quote, let us know what it is. If you’re paying more than around $5000 (including a limited warranty in case it goes out) for a new one or around $4000 rebuilt one, it’s too much.

Q: Will a lift kit for a 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD fit a 2006 Chevy silverado 1500HD?
I just got a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 and i want a 8″ Fabtech lift kit, and they only make it for the 2500. My truck is 4 wheel drive also. I want to know if there is any way that the 8″ could fit or if they do make an 8″ for my truck.

A: provicing they are both 4 wheel drives they have the same body style they will fit

Q: Where is the best place to get a shop manual for my 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Diesel?
I found the factory manual listed at Helm Inc’s website for $135, is this the best way to go? I found an ESI Techline DVD manual on eBay for $40. Are there any other options, and which manual is the best to have for reference? In particular I need to do a brake job on my 2004 2500HD Diesel crew cab, but as I’m planning on driving this truck for many years, I’d like to have a good reference for the whole vehicle.

A: You can buy the actual GM shop manual from any GM dealership for probably about $80 to $100.

Q: im looking for red HID interior lights for a chevy silverado 2500HD?
im looking for red HID interior lights for a 2006 chevy silverado, and regular HID lights. please leave a link so i can buy them thanks.

A: HID is High Intensity Discharge, and that kind of light would not be appropriate for interior lighting. You may want to look for LED lights instead.

Q: 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4X4 has a leak in the transmission case, what to do?
Should I replace the whole transmission, just the case, try to find out what the problem actually is? Any estimation on what this might cost at $75/hour labor rate? Any other options?
It’s not a seal, there is an actual hole in the t-case. A mechanic wants to rebuild it to figure what caused the hole, and I want to know if that is the best route to take or just replace the whole transmission.

A: replace the entire transfer case with a used one. I don’t know what happened to yours but rebuilding it is not an option. not even if it were intact. Very few mechanics can actually do gear cases and rears and if they can they don’t work for the dealer. Look on line for a used transfer case. I have never had that problem and I snow plowed dozens of chevy trucks. They take a very serious beating and shake it off like nothing.

Yeah the mechanic wants to rebuild it to see what caused the hole…. the hole in your wallet when he’s done with you.

with a used case the job is only a few hours.

Q: Can you fold in the extended mirrors on a 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD?
Can you fold them in(for when you park on the street) or do they just stay where they are?

A: If you have the camper-style mirrors they cannot be folded. They can only be adjusted outwards to see behind you better and then back inwards. Even the power camper-style mirrors on go outwards and back inwards. If you have your owner’s manual it should have pictures of the type of mirror you have (and operating instructions too!).

Q: How do I change a thermostat in a 2002 chevy silverado 2500hd?

A: Little more info (engine size gas /diesel) Drain the anti-freeze out of the radiator. There is a plastic twist plug at the bottom left of the radiator that allows the fluid to drain out there. There might be a rubber hose that lets the fluid pass down through the lower fan shroud. When that has stopped draining, close the drain plug and move the bucket away from the work area. At the top of the radiator, follow the upper radiator hose back to where it makes contact with the intake manifold. There is a hose clamp on the water inlet neck, loosen the clamp and remove the radiator hose. The thermostat is under the water inlet neck. It has two bolts that hold it to the manifold. The bolts may have Loc-tight applied to them from the factory so you might need a little heat to loosen them. (electric paint stripper) The gasket may or may not come off in one piece, if it doesn’t ,scrape it off but don’t let anything fall into the opening. Almost done, clean off and make sure the surface where the inlet neck sits is dry.Place the new thermostat (spring pointing down) in the opening, apply a small amount of gasket sealer to both sides of the new gasket. Place the gasket over the opening matching the hole for the bolts. Place the water inlet neck over the thermostat but make sure you have both bolts in the holes of the neck while you place it over the gasket, this will help keep the gasket in line with the neck as you lower it on to the manifold. Tighten down the bolts evenly till their snug and the torque them down to 30 or 40 foot pounds (1/2 to 3/4 of a turn) . Re-fit the radiator hose over the water inlet, secure the clamp and return the anti-free to the radiator. You might not be able to add it in through the radiator cap so it as to be poured in by way of the boil over resivior. Add as much as you can the the resivior then start your engine. Add the anti-freeze as needed till the “COLD” mark has been reached. Run your engine till normal operating tempature has been reached and then check for leaks. Allow the engine to cool off again and add more anti-freeze till the “COLD” mark is reached. Its been a while since I’ve done that to a GM product but I bet it hasn’t change much since my 90 Astro van.

Good Luck…

Q: How do you install a mirror on the passenger side of a 2000 chevy silverado 2500HD pickup truck?

A: If i remember right there’s a small triangle shape panel at the top of the door panel that you need to pop off ,it is a screw in the middle of it, just pop the little round plug out so you can get to the screw. Now that you have that out of the way you will need a 10mm socket to remove the three nuts that holds the mirror on, just remove them and install the new mirror,if it has a electric mirror you will need to unplug the wire connector.

Q: Climate control in my chevy silverado 2500HD?
My air conditioner works great on the passenger side of my truck, but it only blows warm air on the driver’s side…. any suggestions?

A: You must have the dual climate control on your truck. sounds like the vent door is not moving completely over to the AC side and is remining open half on the heat and half on the AC. the Dealer may have a TSB on this issue. Contact them and see if they have seen this or know anything about it. Its most likely a vaccum line that needs to be replaced or the vaccum motor is bad.

Q: How many grease/lube fittings are there on a 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4×4?
“probably none”? is that the best you can do? There are at least 11.
Just testing the answer… ;) Thanks!
Just spent a minute checking the vehicle and found 4… I’m guessing there are more… probably as many as 11.

A: there are none the first person’s answer is absolutely correct.

…and this IS the best we can do

Q: i need help with 2002 chevy silverado 2500HD?
I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD the problem is with my lights, every time i press on the brakes the hazard lights turn on and they stay on and when I release the brakes they turn off. My turning signals work but i as soon as a press the brakes they stop working

A: Check your bulbs , I know how this sounds but just check to see if all your outside bulbs are working.

I have seen this when bulbs burn out.

check all of them, even the bulbs that have steady and blink in one.

Also run down your grounds to the bulbs, they can rust at the mount and not ground right causeing floating grounds.

As well check the relay on the hazards, at this point in auto makeing car makes are using less wires to save weight and in trun have other wires running dubble duty and more.

Good luck.

Q: I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Sometimes the A/C will blow and then stop blowing. It is always cold air
On the A/C blower motor plugin (under the dash) the black wire has started melting the insulation. What could cause this.

A: The only time Ive ever had this problem it was caused by worn out brushes in the blower motor. The motor is drawing to many amps and forcing the ground wire to heat up.This would also be a good time to have the alternator output checked just to make sure its not over charging the system.Best of luck.

Q: how much would it cost to get my 2006 chevy silverado 2500HD black?
i want to get my truck black so i can get it all black, so anyone who got theirs painted, or got an estimate please help me

A: You’ll get a price anywhere from $200 to $4000. It all depends on what kind of paint job you want, how much prep work is required, etc.

Q: Im looking At Getting A Used 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab?
What should i check for when inspecting the truck? i have no experience with diesel trucks so i need to know what to look for. It has the 6.6 diesel V8, automatic transmission, 4 wheel drive, with 95,000 miles on it. im plaining to do a carfax history check on the truck as well.

A: When looking at a diesel, 95,000 miles should not be a concern. Diesels run well over 200,000 miles (400,000) before a rebuild is necessary. (not 100% sure on the Duramax longevity but should be up there) That engine is probably barely broke in or not. The automatic transmission and drivetrain is my main concern when looking at a vehicle. Appearance is important, usually if it looks rough on the outside it more or less has not be well maintained, or worked really hard. But not every time. If there is maintenance records that is a good sign of being maintained well. Inspect the u-joints, driveshafts, rearends. Most importantly test drive it, make sure that trans shifts. I assume being a diesel it has the GM Allison 5 speed. If so im already happy, but still test drive it, make sure everything works(4×4 in and out ect) Check for leaks, tire condition and inspect the engine for leaks or issues. Exhaust is not a big deal, but check it anyway. Last thing you want to do is buy a vehicle you have to replace stuff on or work on yourself!! Combine all this with your report and it should help you make a quick decision. Good Luck!!
